Mumbai Indians make history, become first team to win 150 IPL T20 matches

The Mumbai Indians have made IPL history, securing a significant milestone as the first team to achieve 150 victories in the tournament. Their landmark triumph unfolded against the Delhi Capitals, as they outclassed the Rishabh Pant-led squad by 29 runs on Sunday, April 7 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Fuelled by explosive batting performances from openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, and later contributions from Tim David and Romario Shepherd, Mumbai defended a formidable target of 235 runs. Despite Delhi's efforts, they were contained to 205/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Notably, Mumbai Indians' tally of 150 wins excludes victories achieved in Super Overs following tied matches. Across both the IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20, Mumbai boasts 150 victories out of 273 matches, with 117 losses and two matches concluding without a result.

Following closely behind is the Chennai Super Kings, with 148 victories in their IPL journey. Chennai has contested 253 T20 encounters, securing 148 wins, enduring 101 losses, with two matches ending without a result. Additionally, the five-time champions have suffered defeat in two Super Over encounters post regular ties.

This milestone victory also marks Mumbai Indians' 50th triumph at the Wankhede Stadium, setting a record unmatched by any IPL franchise at a single venue. Kolkata Knight Riders follow with 48 wins at Eden Gardens, while CSK boasts 47 victories at Chepauk Stadium.
