These days, the short-format cricket tournament IPL (Indian Premier League) is being held in India. The tournament will conclude in May. A total of 10 teams are participating in the IPL. So far, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful teams, winning the championship five times each. Chennai Super Kings secured victories in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, while Mumbai Indians won in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Kolkata Knight Riders – The Defending Champions

Following them, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won the IPL three times. They claimed the championship in 2012, 2014, and 2024. Talking about individual records, former Indian captain MS Dhoni has played the most matches in IPL history. He has participated in approximately 265 matches and is still part of Chennai Super Kings. Since 2008, he has remained with the same franchise. Even today, his popularity is unmatched, and when he comes out to bat, the entire stadium echoes with chants of “Dhoni! Dhoni!”

Virat Kohli’s Outstanding IPL Record

However, in recent times, Dhoni has limited himself to facing only 10-15 balls per inning. He arrives at the crease quite late, depriving fans of watching him bat for long. Similarly, Indian batsman Virat Kohli has an exceptional IPL record. He is the highest run-scorer in IPL history, amassing over 8,000 runs, including eight centuries.

Chris Gayle’s IPL Records

Among foreign players, West Indies' explosive batsman Chris Gayle holds remarkable records in the IPL. He holds the record for the highest individual score in IPL history—175 runs in a single match. Gayle has also smashed 357 sixes in the tournament, with a record 17 sixes in a single inning. Another West Indian cricketer, Alzarri Joseph, holds the best bowling figures in IPL history, taking six wickets for just 12 runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad – Highest IPL Team Scores

Sunrisers Hyderabad have made several 200+ scores in IPL history, showcasing their explosive batting. Key players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Kumar Reddy performed exceptionally well for the team last season. In the 2024 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad set the highest-ever team total in IPL history, scoring 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Additionally, they registered 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals, 277/3 against Mumbai Indians, and 266/7 against Delhi Capitals.

In a high-scoring thriller, the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore saw the most combined runs. While Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 287/3, Royal Challengers Bangalore responded strongly with 262/7, making it a historic encounter.

Yuzvendra Chahal – Most Wickets in IPL History

In the bowling department, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for the most wickets in IPL history, with 205 scalps. The first-ever IPL hat-trick was taken by CSK’s Lakshmipathy Balaji in 2008 against Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, the record for the most IPL hat-tricks belongs to spinner Amit Mishra, who has taken three hat-tricks in the tournament. The record for the most wickets in a single IPL season is held by Harshal Patel, who claimed 32 wickets in the 2021 season
