Many people were jealous of Tenali Raman because he was close to King Krishna Deva Raya. One of them was a jealous fruit merchant named Raghu. He once devised a plan to trap Tenali Raman in a conspiracy. He called Tenali Raman to buy fruits. When Tenali Raman asked their price, Raghu smiled and said, "For you, their price is 'nothing'." Hearing this, Tenali Raman ate some fruits and filled the rest in a bag and started moving forward. Then Raghu stopped him and said that keep paying the price of my fruits. Tenali Raman was surprised by this question of Raghu, he said that just now you said that the price of fruits is 'nothing'. So why are you going back on your words now.  Then Raghu said, my fruits are not free. I had clearly told you that the price of my fruits is nothing. Now give me 'nothing', otherwise I will take a complaint to King Krishna Dev Rai and get you punished severely.

Tenaliram started scratching his head. And thinking this, he went to his home from there.

There was only one question in his mind that how to find a solution to the strange conspiracy of this mad fruit seller. From where should I get him nothing.

The very next day, the fruit seller came to the court of King Krishna Dev Rai and started complaining. He said that Tenaliram has not given me 'nothing' for my fruits.

King Krishna Dev Rai immediately presented Tenaliram and asked him for an explanation. Tenaliram was already ready, he brought a jewel-studded box and placed it in front of Raghu the fruit seller and said, take this, the price of your fruits.

Raghu's eyes were dazzled on seeing it, he guessed that this box would contain precious diamonds and jewels... He started dreaming of becoming rich overnight. And lost in these thoughts, he opened the box.

As soon as he opened the box, it was as if his dream was shattered, he screamed loudly, "What is this? There is 'nothing' in it!"

Then Tenaliram said, "That's right, now take out your 'nothing' from it and go from here."

The king and all the courtiers present there started laughing loudly. And Raghu had to go back with a sad face. Once again Tenaliram had won the king's heart with his intelligence.
